ABOUT MICHAEL MCKINNEY

As a husband to my incredible wife Paula and proud father to our daughter Jordyn, I understand the importance of building a strong, safe, supportive community where every family can thrive. My commitment to public service is not just professional, it is personal. The decisions we make today directly shape the City of Greensboro that our children will inherit, and that is why I am running for city council to help create a brighter, more inclusive future for all of us.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of leading organizations through periods of transformation, always focusing on building bridges, not barriers. As Executive Director and CEO of Piedmont Business Capital, I have cultivated meaningful community partnerships, guided multi-million-dollar budgets, and supported small businesses as engines of local prosperity. As Foundation Executive Director for the NC REALTORS® Housing Opportunity Foundation, I helped raise significant dollars to support affordable housing across North Carolina. I believe every family deserves a safe place to call home.

But behind the numbers and strategies is a deep commitment to people. Whether serving on the Governor-appointed State Board of Opticians, the Mayor-appointed Minimum Housing Standards Commission, or as Vice-Chair of the High Point Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, I have always strived to listen first, collaborate authentically, and lead with compassion. My role as a Deacon and CFO at Providence Baptist Church has grounded me in faith, service, and a duty to uplift others.

My work with the 100 Black Men of America as former President/CEO of the Triad Chapter and National Board Member has shown me the transformative power of mentorship and collective action. I also had the honor of serving on the National Campaign Committee for the Civil Rights Museum and Center, a reminder that progress is made when we stand together.

I believe in fiscal responsibility, but also in moral responsibility to use every dollar wisely and every opportunity boldly. Whether it's inclusive economic development, attainable housing (mixed use/mixed income), or  infrastructure, I’m ready to lead with vision and values, ensuring no resident is left behind.

My passion is rooted in service. My mission is driven by love for my family, my community, and our  Greensboro!
